The Mortgage Brain sponsors Sandhurst Village Hall in Aviva Community Fund 2017 Bid

Thursday, July 05, 2018 11:09:00 AM
Sandhurst Village Hall is a much loved and used resource in a village that has lost many of its other amenities over time - there used to be a shop, pub and school in the village but sadly no more.

The hall hosts an enormous number of local groups and organisations and each one has differing lighting needs.  Every week the following groups meet at the hall, Table Tennis Club, Recreational and League games, Women's Institute, Flower Arranging Club, Upholstery Club, Scottish Dancing, Young Farmers, Parish Council as well as Monday coffee morning for local residents, and rain or shine the Theatre group use the hall to rehearse and perform two shows in the hall each year.

They have recently moved into the 21st century and installed broadband in the hall! (Fibre has just made it to the village).  This has encouraged bookings from organisations looking for good value training facilities, so the hall is getting some useful daytime use as well as evening.

However, the current ceiling is very old and many of the tiles are cracked.  The main lighting is old style panel lights but in addition spot lights that were added about 15 years ago and these are too heavy for the tiles and are falling out.

Sandhurst Village Hall Committee applied to Aviva Community Fund 2017, so they could carry out the much needed update of the ceiling and lights. The Mortgage Brain were more than happy to sponsor the entry, as Philippa Dancey, Chair of Sandhurst Village Hall Committee is the mother of one of our mortgage admin team Jake, and a personal friend of Enzo Mora, Director.

Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful in their Aviva bid, but the GOOD NEWS is they were awarded Big Lottery funding and with their own fund-raising activities as a village hall committee the ceiling and lighting project will still be going ahead in June 2018.

Welcome to my Couch to Half Marathon to fund raise for The Fostering Network.

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 5:56:00 PM
To introduce myself my name is Katie MacLeod. I am a complete novice to running having never participated in an official run during my 27 years. So, I thought why not jump in at the deep end and sign up for a Half Marathon... How hard could it possibly be?

Following a 20 week training plan sourced online I am assured that at the end of the next 20 week journey I will be fighting fit and ready to take on the 13.1 miles ahead of me, and I thought I would invite you all on the journey with me by writing a weekly blog.

You may be asking yourself why I have chosen to fund raise for The Fostering Network. Having worked alongside The Fostering Network since 2013 I have experienced first-hand the amazing work they do. As the UK's leading Fostering Charity, they champion fostering and seek to create vital changes in Foster Care.

As a mortgage adviser for Foster Carers I am astounded by the compassion and strength that the Foster Cares I have been lucky enough to help, demonstrate in their everyday lives. Not only that I have been blessed enough to meet Foster Children, their Families and social workers at the Fostering Excellence awards hosted by The Fostering Network which is what truly inspired me to give back by raising as much money as possible to help support such a worthy cause.

So however small every penny really does help. Please help support me on my journey to support The Fostering Network by following the link below:
