Government data has revealed that over 80% of new homes built in England and Wales between October and December were within the two most energy efficient bands. The report highlighted that 84% of new homes in England and 87% of new builds in Wales were rated A or B grade for energy efficiency.
These figures show a 5% increase in energy efficiency for new builds in England, rising from 79% of homes in the previous quarter being rated A or B. In comparison, the percentage of new properties in Wales reaching an A or B standard has fallen slightly from 88% since the previous quarter.
In contrast to the efficiency of new builds, the government data revealed that less than 4% of existing buildings in England have an EPC rating of A or B. In fact, less than 0.1% of existing homes in England achieved an A rating.
Housing secretary, Robert Jenrick, commented on the recently released data: “Building back greener and delivering quality energy efficient homes is a priority for this government and these figures highlight our commitment to helping keep household bills low for people, while looking towards a more sustainable future.”
